DIY Toy box

Now that Mia Eliise is almost 4 months old she has a lot of toys and I have nowhere to but them.
So I decided to make a box for her toys out of a diaper box.

What will you need for this project:

  • Scissors
  • cardboard box
  • crafting paper and some paper to glue to the bottom
  • fabric
  • needle and thread or sewing machine
  • glue
  • ruler or something else to measure with
Now that you have everything let's get started.
First you need to measure your box and cut some crafting paper according to the size of your box. You can also lay your box on you paper and make some marks. Leave about 2 to 3 inches to top and bottom and 1 inch to both ends of your paper.

Now turn down the end from one side and glue down. The other side glue to the box so it will go over the corner ( So that when you but the other side on top you wouldn't see the cardboard.) Like so:
Glue it all around so that you have all the sides covered with paper. Now make cuts to the corners so you could turn the paper down you may have to make extra cuts to the one inch turns and turn them under and glue down to hide them.
I hope you got this so far..
Now turn in the top parts and glue to the inside of the box.
The bottom of the box is quite easy glue two of the opposite sides. And the other sides draw lines like so:
And cut along the lines... Now you should have something like this. Glue it down.
If you like what you see.. good.. but I'm going to do another extra step. Measure the bottom of your box and cut out a square/rectangle BUT an inch smaller than the bottom and glue it to the bottom. So it looks nicer.
Now on to the fabric part..
Trace the bottom on your fabric and cut leaving an inch for sewing (when sewing bare in mind that box is about 2mm smaller from the inside than the outside).
Cut out a piece long enough to cover all the sides ( you can also make each side separately).
Leave 3-4 inches to the top so you can cover a little bit of outer side too.
Now that you have cut your pieces sew them together ( right sides together). So that you have a box made out of fabric.
For the bottom part of the "fabric box" turn down the edges and sew.
now put inside of your box and turn the extra fabric over the edges.

Wow it was a lot harder to explain than I thought..
If there is something, anything that you don't understand, will free to ask. I will be more than happy to answer your questions. And again pictures to the comments below :)
